Job 35: Study 25: Job 3:17 – Rest

Job 3:17

There the wicked cease their raging,

And there their victims are at rest.

I did not even see the “there their” when I put this together. It kind of stands out now and makes me want to change it, but maybe next time. I had so much going on today, I accidentally deleted an entire folder of files at “work”. Hopefully, they can restore it since I figured it out so quick. I know why I do not like to work in the cloud. That makes twice in a week, but the other client had a mechanism I could recover it all myself. Maybe I should slow down a little.

“Raging” is an odd term for me, but it was selected as opposed to “turmoil” or “troubling”. Turmoil was too vague, and troubling was not as emotional. Makes me wish I knew a little Hebrew to look at the word myself.

We looked at “evil” during Bible study this week and we decided the outcome of the discussion depended on the definition. I imagine the term wicked is much better applied to people than is “evil”. Only because I assume it has a clearer definition in my mind, but not nearly the impact.

I had more options for “victims”, no pun intended. The options ranged from “weary” to the “weak” and “those whose strength is spent”.  Weary and weak seemed less like victims of the wicked raging than victim, but “those whose strength is spent”, while fun ,was just as weak. My mind is numb, so maybe this is not as entertaining for you as it is for me.

I did have the vague impression (from poor typing) that “weak” looks very much like “woke”. Woke is a big topic of our times as people feel like they have been sleeping and missing all the actions of the wicked around us. These people were not asleep, they were actively ignoring the issues. Woke is almost a cuss word in my mind. Similar to racist, but in a politically correct way that is not any better. I read a statement that some “woke” guy felt the only way to combat racial discrimination was through more discrimination. How wrong he is. God tells us to love our enemy, and only then can we win them over.

Repose was one option for “rest” that I did not even consider. Being in repose does not help you one bit. It is the rest that makes you better. Here is to hoping that I can get some before tomorrow starts the raging again.
