All my Flaws – Job 138 Study 125: Job 7:10

Job 7:10

They shall return no more to their home,

Their place shall know them no longer.

Negative inspiration. This feels like a list of things that come into play when someone dies. Job is aligning his condition to that of death. He is about to say some less than positive things and does so assuming he will not have to live with the consequences. This is probably how I act all the time and is why my wife likes to point out that people from my hometown tell you how it is. My best friend from when we were babies at church said something similar about his daughter at her wedding reception Saturday. There were a lot of nods in agreement.

“House” was used for “home” in some sources, but I much preferred the personal aspects of home. “Never” was used in place of “no more”, “will” in place of “shall”, and “come again” or “go back” for “return”. Each was personal preference as the meaning is essentially the same with any of these choices.

“No longer” could have been “anymore”, “no more”, “again”, or left off. Pretty straight forward for this second stitch.

I like the vagueness of “their place” that is utilized. The rest is pretty obvious in that dead people cannot go home again. We watched a movie about a flawed individual who was a brilliant mathematician. I am not on his level of math skill, and do not have his same flaws, but I am brilliantly flawed none the less. I do not want to hurt people’s feelings, but my ability to detect emotions and to understand what will and will not provoke emotions in others is lacking. Some of this is due to my upbringing and time in my hometown, but some of it is just how God made me. It is not an excuse for bad behavior, it is just ignorance. Job was about to hurt some people’s feelings and I hope to improve my awareness of my impact moving forward. I did not invent the computer and I do not blame my flaws on others, but I certainly admit I have a few…thousand.
