Study of Job 13:13 – Unsung Hero – Go see it!

Job 13:13

Hold your silence for me and I shall speak,

Then let come on me what may.

I know this is out of sequence and it may be a little rough as I am not taking a day or so to read it again, but…

Not that it really is the topic, but my first impression is that this should be our attitude when sharing Christ. Our duty is to share and accept the consequences. I took the little kid to see ‘Unsung Hero’ which is about the family of the main two in the band ‘for King + Country’ which we took her to the rodeo to see and the big kid took her a few years ago. The pivotal moment in the story is when their bit bet on a tour by Amy Grant cost them everything worldly they had.

‘Hold’ was also ‘be’, ‘keep’, and ‘let me have’. ‘Silence’ was also ‘peace’ or ‘quiet’.

‘Come on’ was also ‘befall’ or ‘happen’. I am not sure, but I get the feeling the ‘let come on me what may’ used to be a somewhat standard phrase.

Of course, that feeling has almost no place in today’s culture where everyone wants to do whatever they want with no consequences. I had a couple bad days this week as I responded poorly to the timing of some work coming in. Some had come in late; some had come in early, and I was just simply overwhelmed. The cleaning ladies were probably afraid, my wife was not happy, and no one would have thought well of me. I felt not unlike the film’s main character when his pride was crushed, and he was too poor to attend his father’s funeral.

What I did not realize was that the main character was played by his son and the story was about the mom and not the father. My kid got a laugh out of me not knowing who the main actor was. She probably also got a hoot out of how I had no idea their sister was a big Christian music artist and that her start in the business was the culmination of the movie. Talk about being uninformed.

As I wrote of the other day, I was recently confronted with my desire to not meet anyone new and my ability to converse. I rarely equate my desire to stay in my comfort zone with missing out on opportunities to share Christ. It is a weakness or blindness that lets me miss out on opportunities to be embarrassed. Without spoiling too much, the band ‘for King + Country’ is a marvelously successful Christian band who is unapologetic about being Christian while seeking to make it feel normal in the world. They want Christian music to be heard on the same radio stations as all the other crap out there and to be judged as quality music that just happens to point to Christ.

I remember Amy Grant when I was younger, and I liked her music. But I definitely pigeon-holed her, and this movie reminded me that I did the same to Stryper. I knew Stryper was similar to the bands I listened to, but I wrote them off as a Christian band, and assumed they were not as good as the bands I was listening to without even giving them a chance.

‘for King + Country’ is one of my favorite bands. I wouldn’t recognize a single song of theirs if I heard it. But I have heard their story, I have seen them play with all the talent God has given them, and I have seen them tell their story of relying on Christ to provide. I do not need to be known as a good speaker, a good writer, or a good engineer. I just need to be known as someone who knows Christ and is willing to share.
