God’s Attention – Job 145 Study 132: Job 7:17

Job 7:17

What are people that you exalt them,

That you fix your attention on them?

This is the incredible sentiment in the whole of history: Why does God care about us individually? One quote had this passage unsurpassed in world literature for irony. I cannot help but think that was bestowed by a non-believer. God has the capacity for anything, and He chose to create each one of us individually and is never unaware of what goes on in and around us.

In place of “exalt”, we had alternatives of “make so much of”, “magnify”, and “make great”. I preferred “exalt” for it being so unordinary.

In place of “fix your attention”, we had “set  your mind on”, “give so much attention”, “set your heart on”, “think about so much”, and “pay heed to him”. From a sentiment point, the “pay heed” at all is the wonder. That Hi attention is so great is overboard.

This verse was surprisingly straight forward. Probably because the underlying lesson is so important. God loves each one of us so much that He made us individually and then sent His Son to die for us. I paid taxes today. “Interest free loan” is the key word for today. Hopefully that can be repeated next year, but maybe to a lessor degree. At least I am not the lender. God gave us governments to protect and provide for our mutual needs, so taxes are a part of what God calls us to. Maybe not the most enjoyable part, but our government is the tool He uses to support us. Thank God He does pay attention and prevent the worst of what could happen.
