Job 6:6
Can that which is unsavory be eaten without salt?
Is there flavor in the oozing egg white?
When I was a kid, I bought my first TV for $10. When I went to college, my mom got me a color 13” tv. That 13” tv probably still works today. But at some point, I gave it away knowing I had too many. Today, I found that one of my tvs was not working (right after I found a remote that had been missing for years). The tv that did not work is essentially a tv monitor and the computer inside just needed to reboot. The remote for it still refuses to work, but that is what smart phones are for right?
I picked “unsavory” because it has the technical meaning of the alternatives of “tasteless” and “flavorless”, but also a certain negative aspect. Otherwise, the first stitch had a clear meaning. The answer is that of course tasteless food can be eaten, but who wants to. As early as people ate outside starving conditions, we like to eat what tastes good.
The second stitch also included options of “flavor”, “taste”, and “savor”, but I chose to go with “flavor” to spice things up. The big variation in the verse is around what I selected as the oozing egg white. Options included “the juice of mallows”, “drool of mallows”, or the “oozing of mallows”. I started with no idea of what a mallow was and after finding it was a plant with no flavor, stuck with egg white as at least I knew what it was. The author would probably use tofu if he wrote today.
Before I pulled the ladder out to fix the tv problem, I looked at getting a new tv. I typically buy a new one every few years, but I haven’t really splurged on a tv in the 12 years since we got the outdoor kitchen installed. With the Super Bowl coming, now is the time to buy right? Since my first big tv, I have not had a Sony and today seemed like the right day to fix that. I can get an 85” one for less than I paid for that first big tv over 15 years ago. Funny how technology continues to change, but the prices for the ”sweet spot” remain about the same. So, the big question now is do I invest that money or spend it on a massive tv?
The unsavory egg. It has all the best nutrients we need, but we often chose to eat something a little sweeter or a little spicier or something just not so bland. I do not need a new 85” tv. I probably do not even need the tvs I have that I use. But I want a tv that works better than the one I have. I want a tv that is bigger than the one I have. My resolve was to pray to God and ask Him what I should do about a new tv. He answered about our house, He answered about our cars, He answered about college, Surely He can answer about this. Is Sony a flavor or its appeal lacking in substance?
