Job 36
Elihu proceeded on saying:
Bear with me a little, and I will show you,
There are yet more words to speak of God.
I will make known my knowledge of God from every quarter,
As I ascribe righteousness to my Creator.
For truly my words will not be false,
A truthful man stands before you.
Behold, God is Almighty, does not reject,
Mighty in strength of heart.
He does not preserve the life of the wicked,
But grants justice to the afflicted.
He does not withdraw His eyes from the righteous;
He seats them with King upon the throne,
Forever, and they are exalted.
But if they are bound in fetters,
Caught in the cords of affliction,
It reveals to them their deeds,
Their transgressions, their arrogant behavior.
He opens their ears to discipline,
Commands them to return from iniquity.
If they submit and serve Him,
They complete their days being well,
Their years in contentment.
But if they are not obedient,
They Passover the river of death,
Perish for their lack of understanding.
The godless in heart heap up rage,
Not crying for His help even when He fetters them.
They die in youth,
Perish among the perverted.
He delivers the afflicted through their affliction,
Opens their ears through their adversity.
He woos you away from the straights,
Into a broad place free from constraint,
What is wet on your table is full of fatness.
Do not be obsessed with the judgement of the wicked,
The case and the ruling upon which they depend.
Beware, lest one seduce you with riches,
Lest your ample means for ransom lead you astray.
Would your wealth guard you from trouble?
Would all the force of your strength?
Desire not the night,
When nations vanish from their place.
Beware, do not turn to evil –
For you would rather sin than suffer!
Behold, God is elevate4d by praise of His power,
Who equals Him as master?
Who has proscribed for Him His way?
Who can say, ‘You have wrought iniquity.’?
Remember that you magnify His work,
Which mortals behold.
Upon which all people may look,
Everyone sees, only from afar.
Behold, God is great beyond our knowing,
The number of His years beyond searching out.
He draws up drops of water,
Distilled as rain, from His flood waters.
Which the clouds pour down,
Falling upon the earth in showers.
Indeed, He sets among the unfurling clouds,
With thundering from His resting place,
Behold, He spreads His light over it,
And covers the depths of the sea.
For by these He nourishes nations,
Provides food in abundance.
He covers the clouds with lightning,
Orders it to hit its mark.
His thunderclap proclaims His presence,
The storm His mighty wrath.
