Party: It’s Cinco De Mayo – Job 154 Study 140 – Job 8:5

Job 8:5

But if you yourself would earnestly seek out God now,

And make supplication to the Almighty,

Cinco de Mayo is a popular day here in Texas. As with most things in the world it seems to revolve around alcohol and food. Mexican beers and Tex-Mex food dominate the day. For those who may not know, Tex-Mex is simply Mexican food with lots of meat. Texas was already free from Mexico when the victory it celebrates happened, but it is really just an excuse to have fun.

The first stitch had alternatives with “look to” rather than “speak” and variations on God vs His name El. None of them exactly had what I ended up with as I pulled several differences together for my outcome (But, earnestly, and now).

The second stitch used either the Almighty or Shaddai as well as “plead”, “and “beseech” in place of “make supplication”.

Basically, Bildad is telling Job that he does not believe Job is truly humbling himself before the Lord and is telling him that if he would, he might get a different outcome. The words of this verse are 100% true, but the intent behind them is evil.

Honesty is a problem in the world. Satan is loose in the world, and he is the father of lies spreading lies as fast and as widely as he can. That we need an excuse to have a party is a lie. That we have to a reason to spend time with friends is a lie. That we have to have a party to have happiness is a lie. The ungodly use holidays as an excuse to get drunk and behave badly. Getting drunk is not acceptable to God and His followers. Behaving badly is not acceptable to God or His followers. A holiday does not change this. Bildad was behaving badly and was trying to disguise it in the true call for us to submit to God. He was lying.

I think holidays are great and it is wonderful to celebrate, to be happy, and to gather with friends. But none of this requires sin. So I pray you all celebrate the holiday, even if it is just an excuse to have a party.
