Job 11:10
If God seizes hold, imprisons, arraigns,
Who can hinder Him?
Our family entered the world of gaming last night with the purchase of a PS5. Or at least one of us did. It might be better than watching more DC comic shows on TV. I played Galaga a lot as a kid, and sometimes as an adult, but the whole “play games on a tv” was never in the budget; time budget or money budget. It will be a learning experience for the little one and a parenting growth time for the rest of us. Yes, that means the big kid too.
Only my favorite source used God and not He.
“Seizes hold” was also “passes through” (makes no sense to me), “comes along” (makes more sense now), “passes by”, “cut off”, and “slip away”. Without my favorite source, I would have picked comes along and missed the progression that seems to be the intent from catch, imprison, and bring to trial.
“Imprisons” was also “confines in prison” or “shut up”.
“Arraigns” was also “assembles for judgement”, “convene court”, “gathers to judgement”, “gather together”, “call assembly”, “assembles” and “confiscate”. So many options for the same task.
“Hinder” was “oppose”, “stop”, “restore” (without Him following), or “resist”.
My brain tells me I was happy with the outcome. My “gut” tells me this is joy for spending the effort. My heart tells me it was both. I am happy and joyful, so maybe the heart wins.
I had the new thought that maybe the build up should be about how the love of God seizes, captivates, and gathers our hearts. I like that. I do not think it is the clear intent of the text, but it may have been a double folded bit of wisdom God left for me, us, whoever came seeking. I know really smart authors can do this in their written word, but I know God has done so, and this is why I believe His Word is a living thing that the Holy Spirit can use the same verse to teach the believer many, many different things. He is God. Who can hinder Him?
