Job 8:15
If one leans upon it, it will not stand,
If one grasps it, it will not endure.

My notes on this one simply say “USE G”, which means for me to just copy my favorite source. As noted, I do not like to do this, but sometimes it is the right answer. I started a new work project Monday, and I am in the firehose stage where there is more information passing my eyes than I can possibly comprehend. My task is to repeat something that has been done four times by four different companies since 2006 to account for new conditions. I want to get the right answer, but sometimes it isn’t the one anyone wants.
“It” here is of course the self-confidence or trust of the ungodly from the previous verses. “Gives way” was an option for “will not stand”(7), “will not hold”(3) an option for “will not endure”(5), and “grasps it”(3) had options of “lays hold of it”, “clings to it”, “holds it fast”(2), and “seizes hold of it”. None of these variations seemed to impact the meaning.
So yesterday, Wal-mart had their “watch me” moment and today Target had their “hold my beer” moment. The stock market is nothing like it was in the past and any thoughts that past performance will give even a hint at future performance are ludicrous. I am not an expert, but breaking news of higher fuel costs impacting everyone is not news. The buyers and sellers of stocks should understand the market, but apparently it is becoming a huge gambling ring. Now that I am not day trading material, I have no idea how to invest, but I am praying to God for specific guidance or holding what I have. I at least understand what I am invested in, even if I do not understand how the daily value of it fluctuates.
I am learning about not trusting in myself and only trusting in God. It is a repeating lesson. God always knows what is right and I believe the Holy Spirit will reveal the next right step for me if I will only follow. I know no other path leads to the right.
