Repertoire of Joy – Job Study 156: Job 8:21

Job 8:21

God will yet fill your mouth with laughter,

Your lips with shouts of joy.

It is a holiday, and I took advantage to sleep a couple extra hours. Just the idea of a holiday helps me relax. I want my joy from God to be just as real as this happiness from a holiday. Of course, the holiday itself is supposed to be some what solemn as we honor those who died protecting our country and its freedoms, but how better to spend this time than enjoying our freedoms with family and friends.

Only one translation said “God” in place of “he”. Only version had “cries of joy” and one had “rejoicing” in place of “shouts of joy”. The rest was identical.

God gave us this country to do His work. A friend was studying a book called “God’s at War” to prepare for a study yesterday when I came by to visit. I do not know the context of the book, but I do know that when we pray for protection, God provides it both in the ways we can imagine and those we cannot. As we live in this foul and disgusting world, we can rejoice in knowing God and knowing that He wins. No matter the strength or cunning that Satan has, God defeats Satan. No matter the tricky or ingrained aspects of our sinful nature, God defeats sin. Everything that keeps us from being happy and joyful, God defeats. I pray that this verse were more entrenched in our repertoire to allow us to know the fruits of following God.
