Job 16:19
Behold, even now my Witness stands in heaven,
My Advocate is on high.
My current goal with my study of Job is to figure out how to show that God told part of the story of Jesus in Job. Well, this is the verse I keep thinking of when I try to set my foundation. I have been at odds with someone over how they interpret the results of a test. On the day of the tests, we discussed all the fallacies with his position, and in the initial report, he left it all out and brute forced the far position. I get mad every time I think about it.
‘Behold’ was ‘surely’ twice or left out the other four times. ‘Stands’ was ‘is’ almost every time.
‘My advocate’ was mainly ‘he who vouches for me’, but also ‘evidence’, ‘record’, ‘corroboration’, or ‘he who can testify for me’.
One of the key aspects of rendering an opinion on this verse is one’s belief in Christ. Anyone who does not believe in Christ relies on their own understanding or on the understanding of others who relied on theirs. Anyone who believes in Christ relies on the aid of the Holy Spirit to help aid their understanding. Of course, non-believers reject the aid of the Holy Spirit, so they may never be convinced of a Christian’s perspective. Kind of like when someone rejects your expertise, they continue to go off on their own merry way.
I believe in Christ, and I believe that the Witness and the Advocate in this verse are referring to Christ. And I believe I understand this simply because I allowed the Holy Spirit to speak to me when reading these verses, and He made it clear to me. One of the interesting things about this Witness is that Job is implying that the Witness has God-like abilities to witness to his actions that no one else could see. Another is that while Job has pushed to present his case to God, he still claims the support of an Advocate, who I would normally identify with a lawyer with the right to speak in court on one’s behalf. When you are arguing a position based on uncommon knowledge, it helps to have someone who can translate.
I have spent a good portion of the last work week dealing with ‘small’ emergencies. The first was because someone thought they knew all the facts but was flat out wrong. The second was because someone did not believe the sign, but they still hit the bridge. The last was because someone thought the client would sit by and wait while trying to overcome a decision. I am in the middle of a two month effort within a big project, and I am trying to be diligent and not create a small emergency. All of these small emergencies are helping me see the big picture on my own project.
I will expand on this verse in the future, but when I look forward to Judgement Day, I know that I will be saved from eternal damnation not because a witness claims that I never did anything wrong, but because my Advocate Jesus Christ will clothe me in His robe and claim me as His own.
