Job 17:10
And, yet all of you, reply again,
But I shall find no one wise among you.
I read an article just now about the ‘problem’ facing our country and our world: not enough babies. I found this funny. These people have been brainwashed into thinking more is better. They think growth is all there is. Talk about finding no one wise.
‘And’ was ‘but’ the other seven times. ‘Yet’ was only found once. ‘All of you’ was once ‘all three of you’. ‘Reply again’ was ‘come back now’, ‘try again’, ‘come back again’, and ‘come, return back now’.
‘Wise’ was also ‘sensible’ once.
I was reminded this morning that the Boy Scouts of America no longer exists. Yes, it had its problems, and some impacted me negatively, but most of it was trying to build up men to follow Christ, and I learned an awful lot that helped shaped me into the man I am. One of the big topics was conservation of resources. Hence, I have never been for the population continuing to grow. I have wanted it to right-size for the planet and its resources, whichever direction that was. My guess is the people are too numerous now and the population will continue to fluctuate downward until the rate of consumption hits the rate of replenishment.
The other false topic was that the economy has to keep growing bigger. In my opinion, politicians want this so they can live higher on the hog, but in reality, the economy only needs to provide enough to feed, shelter, and protection for those who contribute. The Bible says those who will not work should not eat. Those who chose to not contribute should not be other people’s problems. Those who cannot provide for themselves are a different matter, but if one can, they should.
The article pleads with the reader to have more babies and fix all the issues created by a declining population by spending more money. It pleads for more workers and younger populations. I do not think any of this is wise. I think we should let the people have as few babies as they want and pull back on consumption to match. We do not need more people if it only means more colleges and more money spent. We need just enough colleges to teach the population we have. We need to spend less if we have fewer people.
I understood the mandate from God to have more kids to enable people to manage the earth. I think we passed that number long ago and are now making it worse, not better. I think the number of people will continue to ebb and flow. Job knew that his companions were not wise, yet today we let the unwise run the world into the ground based on their stupid ideas.
