Study of Job 17:7 – #403 Time

Job 17:7

My eyesight grows dim from grief,

   My limbs appear like shadows.

In my Bible study, we are reading Romans and are in the midst of chapter eight. I missed due to my sinuses yesterday, but my daily devotional this morning was from chapter 8 verse 35 that we haven’t gotten to yet. I encourage you to look it up, but this verse is very comforting in the midst of a challenge. The more I think about obeying God, the less I think the issues of the world are a big deal.

‘Grows dim’ was also ‘fails’, ‘darkens’, and ‘blurred’. ‘Grief’ was also ‘sorrow’, ‘vexation’, ‘troubles’, and ‘anguish’.

‘Limbs’ was also ‘members’, ‘my frame’, and the best upon this review ‘all shapes’. I think I need to update this so it matches context with the first stitch.

My eyesight grows dim from grief,

   All shapes appear like shadows.

I recently bought a baseball card that appears to have been mislabeled. The one that came to me seems to be a $2 version and the one I thought I bought due to the listing was a $200 card easy. It will be interesting to see how the seller responds. I’m sure my not using them is of no consequence to them, but they have so many cards my not using them is not practical to achieve my hobby goals.

Someone recently asked me what my end game was in collecting. They were like 20 and thought it needed an ending. My end game is the process of collecting and arranging and having something to occupy my recovery time that I am interested in. I assume my collecting will end when I either am out of money or my brain and body can’t be bothered by a hobby. Kind of like someone asking when will I sell my car.

In this passage where Job is lamenting the success of evil doers and the lack of push back by the righteous, I see the world in which we live today. Someone who is out of work and too poor to feed their kids and can find no legitimate way to put food on the table might have a forgivable urge to steal. But the majority of thieves in our world work hard to steal from others. That is not bad luck, that is evil.

Job is saying that he grieves over the issue to the point he cannot see. But he does so because he is too weak to strike those who spit on him. He is too damaged to do more than cast words. But maybe God is allowing him to suffer to glorify God before those around him, and indeed he gets the chance to intercede on their behalf before the story ends. Sometimes we just need to sit back and wait until the proper time to do the proper thing.
