Job 20:6
Though his stature ascends to the heavens,
Though his head attains the clouds,
Pride must be the theme of the day. My devotional covered being prideful when someone wants what you have. This verse begins a discussion of pride being puffed up from accomplishment. My own desire to not have my right of way taken is often overwhelming.
‘Though’ was also ‘if’ or ‘even though’. ‘Stature’ was just ‘they’, ‘pride’, ‘haughtiness’, excellence’, ‘growth’, ‘summit’, and ‘greatness’. ‘Ascends’ was also ‘mount up’, ‘reach’, and ‘rise’. ‘Heavens’ was also once ‘sky’.
‘Attains’ was also ‘reaches’ and ‘touches’.
We had dinner with some folks that Cathy knew the wife from high school band. Before I could say ‘Howdy!’ they were saying ‘So you are the genius.’ It was both comforting because my wife most likely spoke well of me, but also discomforting because it set the bar way above the real me. It is hard to under promise and over deliver when the expectation is genius.
The big kid is off to her first day of work as a responsible adult. The hardest part so far seemed to be picking an internet provider. I tried as hard as I could to make her do it herself, and it seemed to be the first challenge overcome. Not really. She had to get electricity and the apartment and a whole lot of little stuff, but it seemed to be a milestone for her. But it was an early victory on overcoming her dependency on others.
I have three big things I want to get better at. I want to get better at eating the things I should and not eating the things I shouldn’t while also not eating too much of any of it. I want to get better at exercising. I want to get better at spending time listening to who God wants me to be. I’m figuring if I can get those three big rocks in, the little stuff will be easier or not so important.
