The Exalted Future – Job 156 Study 142 – Job 8:7

Job 8:7

Then your past would seem a trifle,

So greatly exalted will be your future.

This verse for me is a summary of the whole book of Job. It is a summary for the life we have ahead of us with Christ. It may even be a summary of the life we can have here on earth following Christ. Yesterday was Mother’s Day and if she was still living my mom would have turned 80 today. For whatever reason this has started out to be a little harder day than most.

Most sources have “your beginnings” and one has “your former life” in place of “your past”. Any of these seem fine. For “trifle”, sources used “small”, “humble”, “paultry”, and “lowly”. Mainly the intent was something “small” to be compared to something great in the next stitch.

“Your latter days”, “latter end”, and “in the end” were options suggested for “future”. “Very great”, “so prosperous”, “increase abundantly”, “greatly increase”, and “very grand” were alternatives used for “greatly exalted”. I just picked the two that I liked better.

For all the great things our lives may have been, and for all the trouble we might have had in the past, earning eternal rewards in heaven through our future efforts here on earth is really the only goal that a Christian can have, and it must be pursued with the effort worthy of being greatly exalted. I believe that my mom did this in her own way and while she had aspects of a trifling past, she sure does have a grand future ahead. So think of singing like an angel before God and use something like that as a vision to guide your days.
