Job Study 163: Job 8:14
Their self-confidence is gossamer,
A spider’s web, their trust.

I have a lot of opportunities before me. The ones I am thinking about all involve how I spend my time with the Bible and other books on spiritual topics. I am finishing a financial book in a few days, I want to go back and finish the Christian Man book, and I want to start anew the book Just Like Jesus. I am also studying Job (obviously), now Hebrews, and am awaiting my next official church “job”. All of which I want to write about to help me integrate what I learn into who I am.
“Self-confidence” was also ”confidence” (3), “trust” (2), ”hope”, and “faith”. I used self-confidence to ensure it was the impious and their pride being discussed. “Gossamer (thread)” (3) was also “fragile”, “shall be cut off” (2), “fails”, and “cobweb”. I preferred the inference rather than the stating.
“Web” (6) was also “house”, but I never thought of a spider having a house. “Trust” (7) was also “relies on” which both have the same impact.
On Sunday our class went to Whataburger and a waitress asked us what church we were from. She said she needed to get back to church. In the course of events, I tried to assure her that the only thing that mattered was her relationship to Jesus. Others tried to get her more details on our church, but I was more interested in giving her the confidence to go to any church over just going to ours.
I can only hope that the comical sequence that led us there were meant for her to see us and be moved to inquire further. I know my life moves in bits and spurts as I fail to realize what step God has next for me. One theatrical image of spider webs hiding threats comes to mind reminding me that God gives light only to the next step on our path, lighting not the goal, but the journey. Our confidence must not be in goals like finishing Job, but in steps like Job 8:14. Step where the light is: A simple motto.
