Study of Job 22:3 – #522 Aiming

Job 22:3

Is it gain for the Almighty if you are righteous?

Does He profit if you make your ways blameless?

My routine has not been in place. I spent a week on vacation, a week by myself, and most of a week dealing with the rest of the household back from vacation. I am out of sorts. I need to get back into the routine, but I really just want to make it as small and easy as possible. I do not understand my problems, but I know my main struggles are to exercise and eat right. My anger, inability to get along with others, and other non-physical issues will just have to wait.

‘Gain’ was also ‘any pleasure’, ‘favor’, ‘care’ or ‘desire’. ‘If you are righteous’ was sometimes an additional stitch.

‘Profit’ was also ‘gain’. ‘Blameless’ was also ‘perfect’.

Our vacation was not one of our typical lay on the beach and do nothing vacations, so I still feel the need to ‘get away’ as used by an airline in their jingle for a while. I want to get away in my own house with my family around to do their part. I want to spend time away from everything to figure out what do I want to do with my life. And not the sin nature me, but the follow God only part of me.

In my brain, I want to be settled in all this by the end of the month. But school starts in the middle of next month for the kid, so maybe that Monday should be my target date to get my crap together. As I look around the room, that is a tall order. I know I do not have to be perfect, and that I cannot on my own be ‘righteous’, but I do not want to take the time to learn about interfacing with others that I could have learned when I was younger.

We started watching a show where a character is a Quaker. I had heard of Quakers from the people movements from England to here hundreds of years ago, but I knew nothing about them and was curious enough to look it up. I assumed they were a very strict sect of Christianity, but they feel more like Hindu based on my simple framework. No idea how knowledge of either of those helps me with my issues, but maybe someday it will matter to someone I am trying to relate to.
