Job 17:13
Indeed, I await my home in Sheol,
To array my couch in the darkness.
I made at least two mistakes this week. One was about the Exodus, and one was about a martyr. One I got mixed up on. The other, I didn’t do enough research. I know I made a ton of other ones, but I hope to learn from these two.
‘Indeed’ was ‘if’ every other time, and it feels better after some reflection. ‘Await’ was also ‘look for’, ‘I hope for’, ‘look forward to’, ‘longed to’, and ‘marked out’.
‘Array’ was also ‘spread’, ‘make’, ‘plumped up’, or ‘cushion’. ‘In darkness’ was once ‘with darkness’. I like with, but it probably was not the intent.
My mistake with Exodus was that I said the people who wandered in the desert their whole lives declined to go into the promised land. If was actually only those who had lived as slaves. The ones who went into the promised land did so after forty years in the wilderness. All the slaves except the spies died during the wandering. Their behavior makes more sense than it did at that moment on Sunday morning.
My mistake with martyrdom was attributing someone’s faith as the cause for his death. As it turns out, it could have just been his behavior and not the reason for it. I do not want to be hated because I messed up. No glory in that. I want to be hated because I followed Christ, and people were offended by the intent and not because of any action itself.
People who do not know God are perfectly happy to live in sin, and the prospect of eternal damnation means nothing to them. Many people think their faith in something other than Christ will prevent an eternity in hell. Some people ignore God and religion all together and assume their physical death is the end. All of these people were made by God and have an inbuilt desire for right relation to Him. Christ tells us that only through Him can we have right relationship with God, and I believe Him. Kind of hard to be a light to the world when we are making huge mistakes we don’t apologize for, or trying to win some one over with anything except forgiveness.

Note I just realized by Job numbering of 1070 will be off by at least the chapters I published along the way. Oh well, its still a target I can shot at.
