Study of Job 24:14 – #578 Murderous Sin of Omission

Job 24:14

The murderer rises at dusk,

To kill the poor and the indigent,

At night, acts as the thief.

There is a phrase about putting childish ways away. My in-laws are past that stage. They may not see it yet, but they have gotten to that stage where they need more than they can provide for themselves. We are in the middle caring for kids and now starting to care more for the older generation as well. Hopefully, we can push off needing help from our kids as long as my in-laws did.

‘Dusk’ was also ‘daylight is gone’, ‘in the evening’, and ‘at nightfall’, but also ‘with the light’ which makes no sense.

‘Indigent’ was also ‘needy’ six times and was combined with ‘poor’ to be ‘destitute beggar’ once.

No real variation in the last stitch.

My goal in life is to not have any goals. Or at least that is the way I want to think about it. What I really need to do is have a plan to follow and do so until God calls me away from it. The first two days of the week I only had two things to do and didn’t get either even started. So now, I have to do them and hope that I haven’t missed something important while procrastinating. As I learned about goals, I did get many other things done while not doing those two. I just need to get my priorities aligned with my new found paradigm of getting stuff done while focused on something else.

I have struggled with bread as long as I have known it was an issue. I am trying to avoid it now. A friend asked if I was also avoiding flour or sugar and I just said one thing is more than enough. I have been good on bread more days than not the last week or so and I know it is helping.

I am reading a book about stupid people starting on a killing spree and being too dumb to stop. I have no idea if that works in the real world, but the concept of an evil murderer is easier to say that’s not me than many other strings of sin. It seems easier to cut out the sins of commission, but a real goal might be to minimize the sins of omission more.
