Study of Job 20:29 – #487 Motivation

Job 20:29

This is the sinner’s portion from God,

   The evildoer’s inheritance from God.

I wanted to say, ‘Thank God that is over’, but the next chapter just continues Zophar’s speech. Ugh. (It does not, but more about that later.) Not that I can’t learn from it, but it has been a challenging chapter so far. Today, I remembered that I need to give everything to God every morning and not rely on myself. Hopefully, today, I can be a better servant. (The piece I wrote today has more on that for me to learn from.)

‘Sinner’ was ‘wicked’ every time but one. ‘Portion’ was also ‘fated’, ‘in store’, or ‘share’.

‘Inheritance’ was also ‘lot’ and ‘heritage’. ‘Evildoer’ was left off the other seven times. ‘Heritage’ was either ‘appointed’, ‘decreed’, ‘ordained’, or ‘willed’.

Yesterday, I took a longish nap, and I slept a long time last night. I ‘feel’ pretty good. My weight is down, but my blood pressure is slightly elevated. Now, I just need to eat right and exercise.  By ‘eat’ I mean eat, drink, and take whatever medicines or supplements my body needs. I think this is true of everyone who ever lived.

When I read this verse alone, I equate the sinner’s portion as eternity in hell apart from God. Compared to that, any consequences on earth are irrelevant. I have several friends who have decided in their infinite wisdom that they do not need God. I pray for them. Sometimes, I do more, but I am leery of pushing too hard.

Over the offseason, I have made progress on acquiring a number of cards for the Astros best player while his market has been down after some injuries. He is not hurt right now, and his card prices are seemingly on the upswing although many people still ask as if he is Ohtani. I remember when Yordan was a rookie in 2019 thinking it would be great if he had a rookie card in 2019. Alas, the marketing powers that be held his rookie to the next ear so they could capitalize on his great rookie season and sell over a thousand different rookies of him in every product.

My point is that no matter how many Yordan Alvarez rookies I, or anyone else acquires, they will all pale in comparison to the joy of know Christ as my Lord and Savior.  That is my motivation and for everyone to share in it.
