Study of Job 22:5 – Endless

Job 22:5

In fact, your wickedness is great,

There is no end to your iniquities.

Wow. Talk about a slap in the face. Your companion says this to you in front of everyone while you are suffering unimaginably. One of the many reasons I did not want to call these three friends. It is actually a good reminder that the Bible is a complete work, and one needs to be very careful about using individual verses.

‘In fact’ was mainly left off, but it was also ‘why’ and ‘no’ (once each). ‘Wickedness is great’ was once ‘evil is tremendous’ which does have more flare to it. ‘Great’ was also once ‘immense’.

‘No end to your iniquities’ was also ‘sins endless’, ‘without end’, ‘infinite’, ‘no limit’, and ‘unending’. ‘Iniquities’ was also once ‘crimes’.

Being an almost hoarder, I have many, many pens and pencils. Sometimes I go through the pens to see which still work and throw the ones that do not out. But I also have a proclivity to buy pens, and I have bought more than I have ever thrown out. Every so often they run out of ink, since I do use them constantly, but its always frustrating, but no more so when I am not at home with the same color waiting for me. I am not sure this is the ideal of be prepared that Scouts drilled into me.

One of the things a spouse can do is point out your flaws. Mostly I know that I am not perfect, but sometimes it takes perspective that I do not have to see that I am so far from perfect. Part of the challenge is of course that our tolerance levels for issues are different. She will put up with crap from servers because she used to work in a restaurant. I do not agree that I need to take the shaft when a server is not serving. This does seem to be an endless issue. This is why I intend to cook at home as much as possible or go out without her if needed. If I reach the 120 year mark the Bible talks about, only 62 more years to deal with this.

On of the endless things I have is a to do list. It is a list of things I do not want to do, but that I might ought to. My wife would like learning to read her mind and doing things instantaneously to be added to my to do list that actually gets done, but they got put on the endless list ages ago. Doesn’t make me wicked or mean these are sins, but they are the kinds of things that get my attention when thinking about what can I actually work on. Once again, I am left thinking about how less than perfect I am and wonder how people who do not love God can make it through.
