Study of Job 23:16 – #564 Strength of God

Job 23:16

For God has made my heart weak,

   Shaddai has dismayed me.

For years I have wanted to not be dependent upon a website to host my baseball card tracking. But it is cumbersome to replace it, more cumbersome to copy it all, even more cumbersome to start over, and unmanageable to do without. In the last week, I have bought three cards I already had and missed on at least two I couldn’t figure out whether I had while the website has been down this last week. The company that I use is supposed to be the market leader, but they are not as good as they should be.

‘Made’ was also ‘turned’. ‘Weak’ was also ‘faint’, ‘soft’, ‘feeble’, and ‘quail’. ‘Heart’ was also ‘spirit’.

‘Dismayed’ was also ‘terrified’, ‘troubled’, and ‘thrown me into panic’.

When I was young, my parents got divorced, and it gave me a soft spot for single moms. At one point, I wanted to work at a charity to help them once I retired. I may still do that, but I have someone who is struggling down that path, and my heart aches for her. I want to figure out to help and make it specific for her needs.

In this verse, Job is blaming his state of mind on God’s actions. In reality, he has chosen to be faint of heart and thrown into panic all by himself. God allows us to reach for His strength during the trial. Job struggled with the very bad situation he was put in, but even as strong as his faith was, he still struggled.

I have been struggling with the results of my choices in food and exercise over the years, and despite knowing it was all me, I have had bouts of why me. I allowed myself to lose all my muscle mass, and although my weight is now down, I still am not as fit as I need to be. I want to ask God to fix me, but what I do is to ask God to give me the strength to do what I need to overcome. So, I am thankful that God has given me access to the strength to overcome, and I pray that my someone comes to grasp this strength and use it to overcome.
