Job 22:29
When others are humiliated,
You will say, ‘Rise Up!’,
He will save the humble.
Today is a holiday. It feels more holiday-ish than many in recent memory. Most holidays to me seem like any other day since I work from home. So today we have plans to do something not work like. We just have to figure out what that looks like.
‘Humiliated’ was also ‘brought low’, ‘sink low’, ‘cast down’, and ‘are low’. One source had ‘When they cast you down’.
‘Rise up’ was ‘it is pride’, ‘lift them up’, and ‘salvation will come’. Several different directions there.
Variations in the last stitch match the first more or less.
The sermon this week mentioned humble people, but it said others would not realize that the humble were being humble. Others would just think the humble person was being nice. I had not thought of it like this before, as in this verse it seems the humble are brought low by outside forces. But in reality, our position as citizens of heaven means that we are being humble when we serve others. We are not to look like poor beggars when being humble. We are to look like those with the joy of salvation sharing it with those who do not.
As I have run across how to use my baseball card collection to serve others, I pondered the impact of letting someone else obtain a card from me that I only had one of and also wanted to keep. I still do not think that is the plan, but I have often helped others with cards I had that I did not want. I have seen the way others try to do the same as I have bought or acquired cards in the past, but most seemed like fishing with bait when only casting a net would work. Back to the want to be efficient vs want to be effective dilemma.
The dog of some friends passed this weekend. I shared with one of them how I also lost my dog at the age of 17 and that it hurt for a long time. She is hurting and I wanted to share that experience to let her know she will be alright at some point. I believe all of our experiences have the potential to help others like this. If only we can focus on others, God will provide.
