Job 23:1-2

Then Job spoke out saying,

Though today my complaint is defiant,

   God’s hand upon me is heavier than my groaning.

 

I had lots of notes to get to this version. Yesterday, my legs were still tired from four straight days of exercise. My three things for today are all very simple; I even have one already done. Sometimes things are just hard.

‘Defiant’ was also mostly  ‘bitter’. Oddly, ‘complaint’ was always ‘complaint’.

‘God’s hand’ was also ‘His hand’, but it was also ‘my hand is listless’, ‘my stroke’, and ‘my strength is spent’. Apparently not so oddly, ‘groaning’ was always ‘groaning’.

Now that I moved a desk and given the kid two monitors, I only have four desks and seven monitors in this room to go with the five laptops, the three desktops, and dozens of cords and cables. Even where I have it minimized, it seems like chaos. And that does not count the tv, the stereo, the connection boxes, the printers, and all the random stuff crammed in here.

I have been reading a lot about AI agents starting to do things they were not trained to do. Duplicating themselves, lying, not telling, and potentially self-sacrificing for the greater AI good, and potentially allowing or causing harm to people. It is right out of the many movies about how our species dies. They probably read the scripts and do not really understand the concept of fiction. Of course, maybe the media is producing fiction now based on interviews with evil tech people.

One of the ideals that I like to hang on to is that we can still rely on God even amidst the chaos of the world and the corruption of technology. I like to use paper for lists over whiteboard, and whiteboards over computers. I like to talk to people in person over phone calls, emails, text, or even zoom. I cannot help but believe that God and His Word will still be true after all the electronics go up in smoke. Maybe I am seeing something I should not, but this verse tells me that no matter how bad it gets for me, God will always be bigger than my problems.
