Job 24:2

They move boundary landmarks,

   Carry off flocks to pasture.

Today we might say they run stop  lights and stops signs or turn in front of people who have the right of way without signaling. Some people in this world are rule followers; it seems most are not. Some people lie, cheat, and steal, we assume most people do not. Or do we?

‘They’ was also ‘the wicked’, ‘some’, or ‘people’. I kept it as broad as possible without being specific. ‘Move’ was also ‘set aside’, ‘push back’, or ‘remove’. Again, I kept it broad. ‘Boundary landmarks’ was a compromise between ‘landmarks’ and ‘boundary stones’, but was also ‘boundary markers’ and ‘ancient landmarks’.

‘Carry off’ was also ‘steal’, ‘seize’, ‘violently take away’, and ‘make off with’. ‘Pasture’ was also ‘feed off of’ which is correct, but not the intent. The idea is that they move the markers and claim the sheep as their own since they were on ‘their’ land.

My oldest relayed a story. She was speaking wiht a man who had different skin color, and the man had the audacity to say she was raised in a diverse atmosphere. She was shocked. But he explained that racist people would never talk to him, much less look him in the eye. He told her more that shocked her more, but we probably did not teach her enough about the bigotry that exists around us.

I remember when one of our government leaders was basically begging us (and specifically the stupid democrats he was fighting) to understand that evil did exist in the world and that evil people were out to get us. The devil does exist, he drags people away from God any way he can, even corrupting the Lord’s prayer in the Bible. People learning of evil only as adults were not raised as well as they should have been. I can tell you evil people have done a good job of passing that down to their kids.

I had friends who were of different skin color from well before I knew anyone had an issue with it. I think it was junior high when I first learned that people didn’t like one another based on skin color. Of course, I had read about it and seen it on tv, but I had never experienced it myself as real and something to be on guard for. Not everyone, but far too many people will indeed lie, cheat, steal, and hold your skin color against you. Be prepared.
