I had this piece hanging for ages now. I cannot even remember how I was presenting these. These are the verses and questions from when my Bible Study group went over this part of Timothy. I think it was the last one I wrote up as I was losing traction on doing the Job pieces. I probably got frustrated over how I was doing all this typing and not benefiting myself. I always wanted to learn how to dictate, but the accuracy made that take as long as my poor typing.
1 Timothy 1:12-20
12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who has enabled me, because He counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry, 13 although I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent man; but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. 14 And the grace of our Lord was exceedingly abundant, with faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. 15 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief. 16 However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life. 17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.
18 This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, 19 having faith and a good conscience, which some having rejected, concerning the faith have suffered shipwreck, 20 of whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I delivered to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme.
First Impression?
12 – Thank, enabled, faithful, ministry – Have you ever thought it necessary for someone to need to be put in ministry? How often do you see people trying to do ministry that is not theirs?
13 – Obtained mercy – Do we still get mercy if we do “it” in belief? Or is mercy available to all?
15 – I am chief – What do you picture as the qualifications to be chief sinner?
16 – Obtained mercy – So if Paul received mercy so that he could share for Christ, is there a similar response due from us?
16 – All longsuffering, as a pattern – Is your perspective of Paul someone who wallowed in their suffering or what?
17 – Honor and Glory – How many aspects of God do you consider when giving glory?
18 – Prophecies – Anyone remember any for Timothy?
18 – Wage the good warfare – How would you describe the good warfare? Does it involve radio stations?
19 – Anyone understand this?
20 – delivered to Satan – Does anyone know how one delivers someone to Satan?
I hope this helps someone. I know we had a good discussion, but I have no learnings to share directly.
