Study of Job 20:25 – #483 Sorting It Out

Job 20:25

Drawn forth, it comes out through his back,

The glittering point passing through his gall,

      Casts terror upon him.

My resonating thought is that if he is fleeing, wouldn’t he get hit from behind, and wouldn’t the arrow come out his front? It is the brainwashing of poets that we not make them be logical as well as beautiful. I grew up in a culture touting the American Dream that was never even defined. Everyone was free to chase whatever even if it was the direct opposite of what someone else chose.

Most sources had ‘body’ instead of ‘back’, might have been my mistake there anyway. ‘Drawn forth’ was also ‘pulled out’ or missing it: ‘unsheathed’, or ‘brandished’ which I do not get at all.

‘Glittering’ was also ‘gleaming’ or ‘flash’. ’Gall’ was also ‘liver’, ‘gallbladder’, or left off.

‘Casts’ was also ‘brings down’, ‘strikes’, or left off.

One facet of what we are supposed to do is eat three square meals a day. I later learned others thought we should only eat when hungry and skip meals often. Direct opposition, so both can’t be true, but it was still what I was being taught. Kind of like the push to have a pet but then to not let it bark or run or any of the things an animal does.

I have too much stuff, but I struggle with whether it is worth my time to get rid of it, worth my time to dig through what might be needed or dig through it to find what might be valuable. I have all kinds of electronics, none of which seems to have value until you don’t have it, and all of a sudden need it. I have all kinds of paper and writing devices that have tons of utility except I never seem to really use them as most people do things electronically.

Our church ended the funding drive and met the lofty goal with a bit of a margin. I teared up at how great God is. The goal of all those funds is to share Christ with others. As frustrating as the details can be, God works through His church. The roles in which I have tried to serve in my church have varied many times over the last 13 years. But the key is that I still try to follow God in all things and move on from whatever He tells me to move on from.
