Study of Job 20:26 – #484 Hidden

Job 20:26

Utter darkness is reserved for his hidden treasures,

A fire fanned by man, consumes him,

Devours the remnants of his tabernacle.

Happy real Cinco de Mayo!

I fully woke up last night stressed about work. I almost never come fully awake once I actually get to sleep until the next morning. When I woke up my blood pressure was high, I was stressed, and ready to give everything to God as I was at my wits end.  The big problem is still out there, but other little ones are being mowed down.

The first stitch was fairly uniform.

The fire was either ‘unfanned’ or ‘unblown’, but I got it wrong apparently.

‘Devoured’ was also ’consumed’, ‘go ill with’, ‘crushed’, and ‘smashed’. ‘Tabernacle’ was mostly ‘tent’.

I think I need to add no before man in the second stitch.

Over the course of my collecting, I have changed my focus. Sometimes this frustrates me, but at the same time I am changing, my knowledge of what is available is changing, and what is available is changing. I have yet to go back and dump anything I wanted in the past, but others tend to do that. That is when I swoop in and pick up things I never got before.

In our discussion group, we talked about the ebb and flow of our collecting of one player and the general consensus was we would keep all these cards until we die. My wife has always said she would sell everything as soon as I die (or throw it away), but I have counseled her on the economics involved, and my oldest’s fiancé knows to give it space to maximize the return. I try to never buy for more than what I could sell something for, but I know some things have gone down in value. Of course, others have gone up, so they might recoup what I originally paid after all is said and done. That would mean all the fun I had along the way was free.

I have heard of people finding unimaginable collections when old people die who hoarded over the years. My collection won’t be like that, but maybe only in my mind. My collection is for sure unique, but my lack of funds and frugality have kept it in check. My goal with all this is to have fun and not spend too much money. I am blown away by the amount of money others are spending. This verse is what I equate to the outcome of that.

Utter darkness is reserved for his hidden treasures,

A fire fanned by no man, consumes him,

Devours the remnants of his tabernacle.
