Job 21:30

You declare,

   ‘The sinner is being saved for the day of calamity,

      On the day of wrath, he will be led out.’

 

It is Saturday; I have plans to meet with my mentor, but beyond that, this is a rare Saturday where we just need to get ready for the future. One of my new goals is to enjoy the now. I have found that having plans is the best way to enjoy the now in the future. My brain seems to especially enjoy not doing what I have planned.

‘Sinner’ was also ‘wicked’, ‘evil’, or left out. (You declare was only from my favorite source.) ‘Saved’ was also ‘spared’, ‘reserved’, and reversing the subject and object, ‘being held back’.

‘Wrath’ was consistent, but the Christian sources had more of a single, final day of God’s wrath, as opposed to the Jewish sources being more of an everyday wrath for one person. ‘Led out’ was generic, but other options were ‘rescued’, ‘delivered’, ‘brought out’, ‘led to his doom’, and the very different ‘wrath being released’.

Won’t finish in one sitting probably, but I am working through a new plan of having a different Bible experience each day on a rotating basis. Monday for History, Tuesday for Wisdom, Wednesday for Gospel, Thursday for Accountability/Mentoring, Friday for our Bible Study, Saturday for random, and Sunday for Church or something like that. Focusing on Job for the past six years has led me to want some variety too. Might be an ongoing rotation or an ongoing change.

For whatever reason, I did not get this finished at all. Probably why I have made no progress on my new plan. I still think this verse is an example of what human wisdom would have God do. But as the Morgan Wallen song says ‘I don’t think Jesus does it that way’.

We all sin. We will all get judged by God. Some will be punished with eternity in hell. The rest of us will be saved by our believe in Christ and spend eternity in heaven. It is just that simple.
