Study of Job 22:16 – #535 Time

Job 22:16

Who were cut down out of time,

Their foundations poured out like a river.

One of my more normal utterings is, ‘Why does everything I do go wrong?’ Mostly this comes from age and not being as physically in tune with everything the way I was when younger. Part of this comes from not putting in the effort and just wanting it to happen, again mostly from a physical perspective. But at the end of the day, it is my sin nature just not wanting to put forth the effort. My question is what does it take to overcome this.

’Cut down’ was also ‘snatched’, ’carried off’, ‘shriveled up’, and ‘destroyed’. ‘Out of time’ was also ‘before their time’ the other seven times.

‘River’ was also ‘flood’. ‘Poured out’ was also ‘washed away’, ‘swept away’, and ‘overflown’.

As a civil engineer, the ideal is that a foundation does not get washed away by a flood, only overflown, left still providing support. Whatever comes my way, I am a Christian. The flood may kill, me, but this foundation will still sustain me and who I choose to be.  No matter how much I learn from life and Bible Study, the decision to become a Christian and accept salvation and Christ’s lordship over my life is always the foundation for my chosen response. Sometimes I make decisions without going there, but not going there is never the plan.

In what I can only describe as God’s timing, we sold the Expedition yesterday to some friend’s/friend’s daughter’s family. I have been frustrated with how the sale of this vehicle has happened for probably over a year as I wanted a newer vehicle to travel with on family outings. But all day yesterday, I was sure this was God’s plan all along, and I am happy with how it turned out. The best/right things happen in God’s timing, and our job is to follow and let Him handle the outcomes. So hard, but so great when it happens.

The phrase out of time, from an earthly fashion, means something happened before it should. Mainly people dying young. But God is the planner and all aspects of life are for Him to decide. My mom’s mom died at 45 when my mom was 18. My mom’s dad died when he was 63 and I was 2. My mom died when she was 76 and I was 50. Each of these feels young and before their time, but God had a plan and this was their time. I need to work harder to allow my body the chance to be doing well if I actually get to 120, but I do thank Him for every new day.
