Job 23:3
O’ That I knew where I might find Him,
That I might come even to His dwelling.
The 2026 Bowman Chrome cards are out, and I have started to collect the ones I want. The three players are my favorite Yordan Alvarez, the future Hall of Famer Jose Altuve, and the rookie Imai. All have an excuse to be more expensive that I would normally allot for new cards. I have on my desk calendar the four of so 2025 Bowman Chrome Yordan Alvarez that I did not get, three 1/1s and a red/5. I think I will not be so close to finishing the 2026’s this time next year.
‘Where’ was also ‘how’. ‘Find’ was also once ‘reach’.
‘Come’ was also ‘get to’ and ‘reach’. ‘Dwelling’ was also ‘seat’.
Job really wanted to come before God in His throne and ask Him, ‘Why me?’ I wanted to use those words, but it seemed to me that the broader sense was required. We now know that He is always with us and that we cannot get to His dwelling until we die or are raptured. I do like the sense of wanting to be with God, but I also know we are to want to be here doing His will more than being worried about when we get to heaven.
The online system I use to track my cards is down and is very frustrating, in more ways than one. (Still is three weeks later.) I have always ended up with more cards than I really wanted but struggled to throw away the ones I did not want, especially the more valuable ones. More recently I have tried to sell the more valuable ones but struggled to lower prices to have a real impact. I know most of the potential paths forward, but like selling stocks, you only lose once you sell.
Today’s Bible Study we dove into the difference between our situation and our calling. Our calling is to follow God, but our situation is where we are, not where we want to be. I want to be in heaven worshiping at the foot of the throne, but I am still alive here on earth, and I need to do my worshiping here. Job’s reward for struggling was more time on earth, and we need to learn to find joy in the struggle and that same reward as well.
