Job 23:6
Would He simply overwhelm me with His great power?
No, He would surely pay heed to me.
Even Christ was not so full of pride that He assumed equality with the Father. I do not understand how the three aspects of a single God work, but I know that Job is getting out over his skis thinking God needs to pay heed to him for any reason. I know that God will pay heed to me, but not in the spirit of how Job thinks he is worthy of something here. Having read the story, we know that God was paying attention to Job and that God does respond to Job, but we also know that it did not happen anything like what Job was wishing for.
‘Simply overwhelm’ was also ‘content with’, ‘oppose’, ‘plead against’, ‘dispute’ or ‘debate’.
‘Pay heed’ was also ‘not press charges’, ‘take note’, ‘put strength in’, or ‘not accuse’.
I had a meltdown while trying to print something yesterday. If anyone could have seen, I would have been humiliated. I had a dream about my sister doing something mean to me on purpose, and my response was similar. I did not get to where I am quickly, so I will probably not get to where I want to be quickly either.
One of the points that Job does get right is that people are overwhelmed by God’s great power. I had a talk with the youngest about her career, and she said she wanted to make a lot of money. I told her that she would have to be an owner to really make money. I don’t think she liked that.
I also talked to her about my career and the big decision in my life, and how my wife and I made all our biggest decisions based on how God led us. I grew up relatively poor and was lauded for how ‘smart’ I was, and I determined to use that to not be poor once I grew up. So, I knew how the drive for money could be at the forefront of career decisions. But I also was laid off from my first job and constantly humbled along the way. God has blessed me beyond measure, and I know in my heart that he will continue to do so, but it is because of who He is and not at all because of who I am.
